Preview // Nordicana 2014 at The Old Truman Brewery, London E1.
February the 1st and 2nd
bring the return of Nordicana. When #srcz went last year to the first edition
of the festival it was quite excellent, taking in screenings of the best films
and series from the Nordic Noir genre, interviews with key members of their
cast and crew, music and much more besides.
This year’s festival comes
just nine months after the last and features a new venue and a lot more to
enjoy over the weekend. If you were here last here you’ll know what it was an
excellent way to spend the weekend, with good food, music and a feast of
excellent drama.
Saturday brings much to
enjoy in the form of the UK premier of episode 9 of The Bridge followed by a Q
and A session with leads Sofia Helin and Kim Bodnia. Alongside the Building
Borgen panel with lead Sidse Babette Knudsen, co-star Pilou Asbæk, series
creator Adam Price and producer Camilla Hammerich and composer Halfdan E, this
will be the most anticipated of the day.
With The Bridge concluding
its second series on BBC Four the same evening the chance to catch the episode
early is not to be missed! Needless to say, the Borgen panel will be a must
attend, with five of the key cast and crew present to discuss how the
innovative and globally known political drama was created.
But for fans of the
main crime genre aspect of Nordic Noir, Wallander stars Krister Henriksson and Charlotta Jonsson will be on hand to discuss
the series.
Elsewhere there are movie
premieres to enjoy including The Hour of the Lynx, Northwest and A Hijacking
plus the premier in the UK of DR’s newest drama The Legacy. Saturday alone is well worth your attendance!
What about on the Sunday?
Well, it’s opened with a bound to be packed and rare solo appearance by Sidse
Babette Knudsen in ‘The Statsminister & Beyond’ . #srcz witnessed her Q and
A session at last year’s festival and it didn’t disappoint so make sure you get
down early and catch what will be a very entertaining session!
The rest of the day sees
another Q and A session with The Bridge stars Sofia Helin and Kim Bodnia alongside
a screening of episode ten. (Spoilers beware!) The day will also see the
premiere of Wallander – A Troubled Man and various food related events
including How to Eat Like a Scandi and a very tasty sounding Cinnamon Bun Off!
All in all a weekend of
fun in the City that is truly unmissable for all fans of Scandinavian drama.
