On The Scene//Stealing Sheep at Dr Martens Liverpool

On any day a pair of Dr Marten's is a very good walking companion. And although I elected not to wear my DM's on this occasion we enjoyed Stealing Sheep's gig at the Liverpool branch of Dr Marten's boutique store. Props and praise follow...

Shoes, bags, jackets and sheep normally have no correlation. But on a post-Wintry Thursday evening in Liverpool 1 a gig as part of Dr Martens' #Firstandforever festival made very good sense. Not a standard venue for a gig but with the irresistible combination of boots, bags, jackets and great music it was an excellent night.

The band played a set filled with songs from their much loved album Into The Diamond Sun and the crowd was a local but different crowd of faces than at other venues. There was a wide span of generations and a universal love as they sang along word for word to the bands performance. Opening with the pensive Bear Tracks and moving sonically upwards as the set progressed it was warming mix of harmonies, intricate arrangements and the bands subtle trademark charm of choruses that worm into your brain on first listen.

Highlights of the set included the cosmic feel of Tangled Up In Stars, next single Rearrange and the closing double of Shut Eye and I Am The Rain. Although a clothing boutique is an unusual venue for a gig it certainly wasn't a bad one with the already cool surroundings a perfect fit for the bands warm psychedelic sounds. A twelve song set flew by in almost no time and perhaps the defining image of the night was the in store branding behind the band that seemed to define their sound effortlessly.

That is, "Individual Style, United Spirit".
