Music Review // Little Ghosts – Carnivore
We love a record that
opens with a bang and Little Ghosts’ latest E.P. Carnivore is certainly in that
category.
The drone like electronic hooks that open the title track power an electro edged intro track that jumps
into your ear like the best openers should do. The strong edge to the lyrics,
including the intriguing declaration ‘at 3am I am a ghost’ is a big draw for
this writer – and the energy continues throughout the E.P.
The atmospheric
production continues into title track Carnivore – and you can feel the telling
tension of a classic in the chorus. This kind of music
could soundtrack a satanic dungeon gathering, with all the obvious or not
trimmings, in its underlying malevolence. Evil guitar equals great love from
this writer!
Days, the third
track, takes a more melancholic, almost Shoegaze stance, in its production and
it’s an effective break from the bass heavy mix. But then we have Steam, with a
punk edge to its chorus and a catchy production that rounds off the E.P.
perfectly. There is much that could be said about Carnivore as a whole – it’s
got a meaty sound, unlikely to soundtrack any regular party and its
electro-punk edge with a pleasing sheen is enough to convince you of the merits
of Little Ghosts. Definitely one to play very loud – and often!
